November – Month of Organization November 3, 2011

Filed under: Homemaking — fullofhisgrace @ 1:21 pm

Hello Everyone!

November is my month of organization! My home, my life, my spirit, everything gets organized! I am going to be posting, hopefully at least every other day about organizing these things and helpful tips to do so!

I decided to begin with the most important thing first, my spirit…I think it’s very easy to let my spirit get messy and cluttered. I am negligent in my time for God, I am not praying throughout the day, and then all the sudden I feel distant and far away from him and his comforting presence. So for the first post, I am going to share about spiritual journaling…this is completely new to me and I LOVE IT!

I’ve never really done this before, but I was reading on Ann Voscamp‘s blog, A Holy Experience and began my journaling adventure to a deeper understanding and relationship with God. Getting everything down on paper is so freeing. Confessing, praying, thinking, understanding….it’s wonderful!

I have also started a visual homemaking journal…I cannot wait to pass it down to my future children and grandchildren. It is also a helpful organizer!

I feel that it is important to be a good steward of your time. Wasting time is sad because you can’t get it back once it slips past. I find myself spending thirty minutes here on facebook or ten minutes there checking emails that aren’t even important. I want the hours in my day to count for something. I want to say I was productive with my time, that I accomplished things, that I have something to show for the hours when I am awake. I don’t want to say that I just missed my whole morning because I was lying around trying to get out of bed. I have created a schedule for myself so that I can get everything accomplished that I need to and still have some time left over for myself or to spend with others. So far, it is working well. I have been up since four thirty this morning and already have most of my morning chores and homework completed! This will leave me more time for journaling, sewing, wrapping Christmas gifts, baking bread, and visiting my sweet grandma! Here is a photo of my new schedule….

I hope these spiritual organizational tips help you like they have helped me! I would love to hear about your journaling experience!

Blessings in Christ,

Jenny

Jenny, journaling is a wonderful exercise. I’ve kept journals off and on for years. Looking back, I discovered that I wrote mostly when I was upset about something. So my advice to you is to write everything. Not just the part of yourself you may feel a need to put down. Be well rounded. Your children and grandchildren will thank you for that. They will want to read your journals to get to know YOU. The personal bits will be fascinating to them. The every day bits will be, too. Your to-do lists, grocery lists, favorite recipes, all the mundane bits of life. I am glad to see you are adding more to your journals than just the writing. Ticket stubs, pictures, receipts, doodles and notes…it’s all a piece of what you are doing. I’m so glad you are starting now, early in your life. I’m looking forward to following along this month. Being organized is a worthy goal. And harder to keep up with than most people assume. Probably because it involves so much self discipline. Ah, that’s a hard one! ~~Rhonda

I got started writing through journaling. I started writing prayers because I had so much in my head at once I couldn’t clear my mind enough for a long period of prayer. I choose poetic form as a discipline for my wordiness tendency. But the intimacy of writing the hurts, joys, sorrows, frustrations, praise and even yelling at God sometimes has been one of the building blocks of our relationship. I’ve published a lot of them, but there are some that will never see the light beyond the journal (I haven’t even put these on my computer.) I’ve never herld a strict daily schedule, but wrote when I had something on my mind… which in my maturing process has been often.
It’s a good thing … journaling for those of us who love words.

  3. Hi Jenny, I just wanted to say how much I have gotten out of journaling with God over these past 6 years. It has been AMAZING!! A mentor encouraged me in it, and it has deepened my relationship with God more than I can tell you! Blessings to you as you start on this journey. You are in for a wonder-filled time with our Lord :) Your sister in Christ – wordprocessor
P.S. Love Ann Voskamp…Did you read her book? So good. Try to keep a list going of things we’re thankful for.
P.P.S. You seem extremely organized and creative. Your schedules/journals are impressive. Wow! My mind does not organize things well, so I am especially appreciative of that gift in others :)

    • Hi!
I love Ann Voscamp! Her book changed my life :) My husband even noticed the difference when I began counting the blessings. I am now filled
with a joy overflowing. I love finding people who have read her book and have even purchased a few copies for friends!
